HOW TO BID FOR AN IODA EVENT

IODA championships are awarded to countries on the vote at the IODA Annual Meeting of the representatives of the member countries on that continent, all member countries in the case of the Worlds.

As indicated in condition 7.1 of the Conditions for the IODA World Sailing Championship and 8.1 of the Conditions for IODA Continental Championships:

"Applications by IODA members** in good standing who are interested in organising and conducting the championship shall be made to the IODA Executive Committee not less than two months before the IODA annual meeting held two years before the year of the championship. The application shall be made by completing the Application Form in Appendix A.* Such applications shall state the acceptance by the IODA member, the organisers and their national sailing authority of the obligations imposed by these Conditions and their commitment to conduct the championship in full conformity with them"

* Applications shall be requested to the Secretariat and returned to them prior to the corresponding deadline.

** Please note that only the IODA members are allowed to bid: even when the IODA member can delegate the organisation of the event in third parties (clubs, associations, etc), the application shall be presented by them. Moreover, the national Optimist association member of IODA is always part of the Organising Authority and, as such, is responsible for the event to be conducted in accord with the IODA Conditions and Race Management standards.

RACE MANAGEMENT

One of the objectives of the IODA is to ensure consistency of race management procedures in all the events, be them Continental or World championships. For that reason, the Sailing Instructions and the Notice of Race are prepared by the IODA Race Committee. Organisers have to follow the procedures stated therein and in the Regatta and Race Management manuals.
